Directors - Simon Hunter, Film and TV Commercial Director

Simon Hunter

After graduating from film school in 1993, Simon went on to write and direct a handful of short films - one of which, Wired, impressed British screen so much that they immediately invested in Lighthouse, a $2.5m feature film. The New York Post called Simon’s Lighthouse "as suspenseful as anything in recent history" .

After completing Lighthouse, Simon was selected for the new directors showcase at the Cannes advertising festival. This prestigious honour is awarded to the twenty-five most promising newdirectors in the world. This was where Lighthouse attracted the eye of Bob Isherwood, the creative director of Saatchi and Saatchi. Isherwood admired Lighthouse, saying, "few films demonstrate so clearly how tension gets attention. The tension is dynamic”.

Simon then signed with London-based commercials company Infinity Productions, and started his career in advertising. He quickly became one of London’s most respected commercials directors.

Specializing in visual effects and lush visuals, he has completed commercials for a large number of clients ranging from Coca Cola and British Airways to Royal Sun Alliance, Virgin Media and the German Post Bank.

In 2006 Edward R. Pressman, producer of The Crow, Judge Dread and Wall Street approached Simon to direct The Mutant Chronicles, an ambitious science fiction epic starting Ron Pelman (Hellboy) and John Malkovich.

In the spring of 2006, principal photography on The Mutant Chronicles began. The film was shot entirely against green screen. The production process would involve nearly 2000 visual effects shots, (a British record) and take nearly two years to complete.

Simon has been a leading advocate for digital film making and regularly lectures on the subject. In the spring of 2008, he worked closely with Canon cameras helping them launch a new range of high-definition cameras in Marrakech.

Simon says he is most at peace climbing the hills of Mull on the West coast of Scotland.
